The first catch

Silvershine padded into the clearing, proud shining in her eyes that her apprentice did so well. She put her fish to the fresh-kill pile and signaled Swiftpaw and Pebblepaw to do the same. Lust but not least the pile of land prey Cherrydapple and Owlflight had hunt.

"Dinner is served!", she mewed out loud so that everybody saw how well the apprentices had done. "First ever catch of Pebblepaw and Swiftpaw, come and take your share!"

Pebblepaw's eyes gleamed with happiness as he entered the camp and put down his fish. He couldn't believe he caught his first piece of prey! Hearing that Silvershine gave them permission to take their share of prey, Pebblepaw padded forward and picked out one of the mice Cherrydapple caught. He carried it over to a spot right outside the apprentice's den, and settled down comfortably. He bit into it, letting the warm flavors swim into his mouth. After being out for so long and working so hard, Pebblepaw was starving! He finished the mouse in a few famished gulps, then settled down and started grooming himself. He couldn't wait 'till Berrypaw got home so he could tell her about his catch!

Silvershine had her own fish in her jaws and padded to Pebblepaw. "You sure are still a bit hungry after that tiny mouse, aren't you? Do you want to share with me the fish?" She didn't wait for a reply instead padded to the warriors den and laid down, waiting for her apprentice to join her.

Pebblepaw got up and and padded to the warrior's den, admitting to himself that Silvershine was right; he was still a bit hungry. But he didn't want to eat too much; other cats in the clan needed food as much as he did. But he didn't object, instead he just settled down beside his mentor and waited for her to take the first bite.

Silvershine looked at the fish, leaned down and took a huge bite. This was her first meal since the morning. "Delicious.", she mewed.

Pebblepaw took a small bite of the fish. Wow...this is great! Pebblepaw thought, biting off more of the fish. "So.....what time to I have to get up tomorrow?" Pebblepaw asked nervously; he heard that all apprentices had to get up really early.

"Sunhigh.", Silvershine mewed. "Today was your first ever day as an apprentice and you already did your first kill, you deserve to sleep. We will accompany the Sunhigh patrol. You will learn the scents of the other clans and see our territory. After that ... " Silvershine paused. She knew that every apprentice hated the following. "... at dawn you need to check the elders for ticks and change their bedding if thei'll let you." She smiled and continued eating.

"Ok," Pebblepaw mewed softly. Sunhigh was later than he expected, and he was happy about that. The patrol sounded fun too. Checking the elder's for ticks wasn't thrilling, but Pebblepaw didn't show his disappointment at the task he was assigned.

Cherrydapple padded up and took a bite. "This is delicious! Well done, you two!" She exclaimed.
