Backstory~

You know the feeling, while singing, when you get a funny taste in your mouth? Like, as if you were swallowing pure sunshine, or silky darkness? And afterwards, you feel like the world has stopped spinning, just to hear you sing? There once was a world, where singing, song, and music held such respect, that the very elements bent under its shimmery hold. There were several, in this world, that could manipulate this power, and used their element to help -or hurt, for that matter- their people. In some places, these people were much respected, and held high social ranking. In some other places, these people were treated as gods. And yet, in other places, these people were treated as demons, and were executed. Scattered around the large continent of Demischa, these people were all as different as snowflakes.

Status~

Demischa is a massive land mass, with deserts, jungles, mountains, oceans, tundras- you name it. You are a singer, dancer, musician of Demischa, gifted with the power of a certain element, through your songs. You live, or are visiting, a small village in the North, by the name of York, where the ground is coated with ice, and it snows nearly every day. You are attracted by York's cozy atmosphere, and old legends, and, of course, the small center that makes it famous;; The Temple of the Ice, where a small band of ice singers gather, train, and live, headed by their Mistress, a very old, expert singer by the name of Mithaldi. All of the singers there are women, for, to sing notes of ice, their voices must be high. But, the number of singers in the Temple are decreasing with every year, as are the singers around the world. Why? This you long to learn, for you know of several whose abilities have vanished in the thin air. Aided by your peers, will you discover the reason for the fading magic? Will romance blossom? Or will you, too, lose your powers forever?
Elements~
Air Singers:: People of the wind, as they call themselves, tend to live in dry, hot, desert climates, where their winds can be of some service. Most are adventure-loving, hardy folk, who are easily distracted, but make for good companions. Usually air-singers have sandy blond hair, and are rather short, but slender, with green to brown eyes. Voice requirement: Alto.
Ice Singers:: Ice singers are generally women, who have high enough voices to control ice. It is a tricky talent to master, and those who can are usually slightly arrogant or confident in themselves. These people tend to flock towards colder, tundra places, specifically the Temple of the Ice, in York, a sort of "HQ", if you will. Usually ice-singers are medium-sized, with darker hair, and blue to black eyes. Voice requirement: Soprano.
NOTE: Ice Singers can also control water, though only in warm and easy conditions- it is very difficult.
Fire Singers:: People of the flame, as they call themselves, tend to live in secluded, mountainous areas with lots of rocks; such as volcanoes for their heat. These are the most popular of the singers, especially for men. Most are shallower, and more aggressive, but make for great politicians and leaders; in fact, the Queen's own son is a fire-singer. Generally fire-singers have brown-ish, copper hair, with almost red to topaz colored eyes.
Earth Singers:: People of the rocks, as they call themselves, tend to live in highly forested areas, or small villages where they have room to garden, and live freely. Earth-singers are generally very well-tempered, perhaps because many of them don't finds their powers until middle-aged. They usually have red to brown hair, with green to brown eye color. Voice requirement: Baritone to Mezzo-Soprano.
NOTE: Earth singers can also speak to animals.
Light Singers:: People of the sun, as they call themselves, tend to live, well, wherever they can, as long as their light shines in other people. Light-singers are generally slightly air-headed, optimistic, and perky, being most female. Usually they are thin, middle-sized and slender, with light blond to red hair, and blue to topaz eyes. Voice requirement: Contralto to Soprano.
NOTE: Light singers can heal.
Darkness Singers:: People of the night, as they call themselves, tend to flock around urban areas, if not caves or ports. Darkness-singers are usually quiet, mysterious, or cold, usually being male due to a low voice range. Generally they are tall, and dark-haired, with very dark or iridescent eyes. Voice requirement: Bass to Tenor.
Illusionists:: People of the mind, as they call themselves, will live anywhere. Anywhere. Illusionists can look however they like, and have very diverse personalities. Only a handful of people can be illusionists, as it is almost as hard as ice-singing to master. Voice requirements vary, as it is not the pitch at which to sing that matters, but the way to sing it. Illusionists can distort the human mind, and how we view things.
Very few people have the ability to sing at any pitch, and are much rarer than illusionists. They are the "ultimate singers", if you will.
