Ice is on the Loose

Sarataru padded through the sparse land like a Leader. His fur was a very light ginger, and mostly white covered his body. The tips of his ears were black. Some saliva was dripping from his jaws. If a terrible stench wafted off him he didn't seem to care. His long tail swung from side to side. He didn't care if anyone caught his scent. He knew that he could beat anyone.

Wolfstar padded out of the camp, calling back, "Spottedheart, you're in charge until I get back!" As soon as he put a bit of distance between him and the camp, he began to run. The moor streamed out around him as he flashed past. He had to investigate what it was the dream he had last night told him about.

Deep in the clutches of sleep, Wolfstar became aware of a presence. He got up, and looked around. At first, nothing. Then, a sound from behind. The rest of the world came into clear focus. Wolfstar knew exactly where he was at, close to the border. The noise came again, from in front this time. Wolfstar padded closer, when there came a snarl, and something large leaped at him. Everything went black.

Wolfstar shook his head, shaking the memory from his head. Almost there, he thought to himself. He was convinced this dream meant something, though he wasn't sure what.

The odd colored fox started into a run, his paws thudding noisily on the ground. His tail whipped out behind him. The fox was looking for something to kill. Something to shred. Because deep down, he knew that each and every fox wanted the kill. The reason why he had left his Tribe was because he thought they had been weak, wanting to reason with cats.
Cats are food! He growled in his mind. Funny I should think about cats... He thought as he stopped dead. He had smelled it. The wind had blown it toward him. Cat! And running close to it's doom, too.
Sarataru knew that he could not use the element of surprise, since there was no cover here. He just stood, his shoulders and tail in the air, and his paws splayed wide out, his usual fighting stance. He was ready to kill.

Wolfstar continued running, but it wasn't long before he saw the odd colored fox. He slowed down to a jog, and soon stopped. "Who are you?" He yelled out to the fox. The fox was standing about ten mousetails away, and Wolfstar could tell it was ready to fight. Wolfstar tensed.

Sarataru chuckled. It was trying to converse with him! "My name are the last words you'll here." The fox growled. "Sarataru of Ice!" And then he leaped at the cat. He knew he would miss; the area was very open. This cat could go anywhere.

Wolfstar's eyes widened, both at the fact that the fox talked to him and that it leaped at him as fast as it did. He barely had time to leap back before the fox landed where he had been a split second ago. Wolfstar retaliated with a slash at the face.

Sarataru merely snarled as sharp claws his his cheek. He would have to find some herbs later. He recovered and thrusted his head foreward, hoping to clamp his jaws around the cat's hind leg.

Wolfstar was able to avoid the teeth for the most part, but the fox managed to snag his paw and dug into it. Wolfstar merely snarled and took a quick bite toward the foxes unprotected neck.

(Foxy has thick fur. Don't forget it. XD)
As soon as Sarataru felt his teeth connect, he grasped the paw and attempted to swing the cat into the air. If he was successful, the cat would be flung a few feet away, and he would kill him while he was dazed. If unsuccessful, the cat would have one messed up paw. The scratches on Sarataru's cheek were very deep.

As soon as Wolfstar felt the fox begin to fling him up, he tried to get his paw out of the fox's mouth. When that didn't work, he slashed at the fox's mouth attempting to make him open it.

Instead of opening his mouth, Sarataru chomped down harder. Big mistake. He thought, and continued to try to fling the cat away. Now his snout was bleeding. The blood matted his white maw.

Wolfstar was still in danger of being flung, and his paw was clamped in the fox's mouth, blood streaming down, both from it, and the fox. Wolfstar had to think quickly. If he was flung, it could be all over. However, if his paw stayed in the fox's mouth, it could be mangled for good. I...will not lose! Wolfstar thought furiously. On a whim, he tried to grab onto the fox's thick fur in an attempt to prevent being flung.

Suddenly, Sarataru had an idea. Instead of flinging the cat, he would pin him. It's all over for you, cat. The ginger and white fox thought smugly as he flung the cat to the ground. This cat was a fighter indeed, as he was digging his claw's into Sarataru's face which was starting to bleed heavily. Sarataru let go for a split second. If he succeeded, he would stop the cat with his paw, and pin it down to the ground. If not, he would catch the cat anyway, because of the paw he had injured.

Wolfstar let out a puff of air as he hit the ground hard. The fox was smarter, and stronger, than any other fox he had seen before. Wolfstar was going to have to come up with another strategy. Gathering his strength, he prepared to shoot through the fox's legs and try a different strategy.

Sarataru's teacher had told him to look into the enimies eyes to tell him what the enimy were doing. So he saw that the cat was.... aiming for his hind legs! He was planning to escape! Or.. it could be a diversion... Sarataru didn't know. And then....
His paw lashed out and stepped on the cat's paw, and held it down. His jaws aimed for the neck.

Wolfstar's plan to pull out having failed, he was now stuck underneath the fox, with his mangled paw trapped. With now much else left, Wolfstar did his best to move to the side, out of the way of any attack from the fox.

(How about Sarataru rips a wound into his shoulder as he dodges? I need your permission if it is to shed blood, after all.)

(Sure, let's go with that.)

The fox failed to hit his full mark, however, he felt his right lower canine rip a large gash into the cat's shoulder. He felt this did a lot of damage, so he hopped away, savoring the blood in his mouth, to observe what he had done.

His paw still mangled, and a large gash torn in his shoulder, Wolfstar was limping badly, while the fox was still relatively uninjured, save for his muzzle. If this keeps up, I'll be torn to shreds. There has to be another way. Wolfstar feigned an attack at the fox's feet, then lept up on top of the fox, using his good paws.

Sarataru shook this cat off his shoulders. He launged for the neck again.
(If effective, will only rip a little, giving time to heal while first life is taken away.)

With the injuries sustained already, Wolfstar had no time to dodge as
the fox lunged at him again. Its teeth connected, and Wolfstar was
thrown back, limp on the ground. He tried to get back up, but it was
starting to go black around the edges of his vision. Soon it crept in,
and everything went black.

Wolfstar got up with a start, and looked around. There was no sign of
the fox anywhere, or anything else from the battle. "Wolfstar." A
voice echoed from behind him. Wolfstar turned around to see a cat
wreathed in starlight. "MossStar," Wolfstar said in a quiet voice.
"Where am I? What happened?"

"Patience. You just lost your first life." And now that he looked,
there was a dim outline of a cat next to him, light gray with green
eyes that flashed like fire. "I have to go back! If that fox gets
into camp, it'll be a disaster!"

"Again, patience. That always was one of your weaker characteristics," MossStar said with amusement glittering in his eyes. "Here, you are going back now."

Wolfstar woke with a start, on his side and aching. He got up slowly, and saw that the fox was walking away. In a quiet voice, he said,"I'm not finished with you. Come back here."

Sarataru sniffed the body. It was dead. He didn't want to eat it; he killed just for fun. He turned away, and trotted down the hill, and started to travel again, not hearing the cat's words.
