Two Birds

Griffinshade waited in the clearing, sweeping pine needles into a pile for no important reason, just boredom. He chose the most tree crowded and fern covered area to train in so that his two new apprentices would adjust to difficult environments.

Kestrelpaw padded unenthusiastically behind Griffonshade, his new mentor. Wasn't he an apprentice just a second ago, why was he already training cats? And why did he have to share him? He didn't want another apprentice training with him. He'd get partial attention, and of all the apprentices it was Foxkit. Why did it have to be her. Griffinpaw was basically all into her. He'd like her way more than him, so she'd get more attention.

This would be a drag.

Griffinshade didn't move a muscle, not even his ears directed toward Kestrelpaw. "Are you ready?" he asked.

"Of course," he growled. Why wouldn't he be ready? He wouldn't be here if he wasn't ready. He was still angry about that whole claw thing with Foxkit. He had scars and he hadn't even been in a battle yet. Stupid kit... or 'paw, actually.

Griffinshade suddenly whipped around, lunging at Kestrelpaw, giving no warning. He flew right towards the younger tom, his amber eyes radiating with ferocity.

Oh StarClan. He leaped like a badger. Kestrelkit was knocked over by Griffonshade's attack, surprise making him swat randomly at his face. "Hey!" He yowled when his mind was on solid ground, "what was that!? When you said ready I thought you mean you were going to teach me something not attack me like a crazed monster!" He crawled from under Griffonshade and gave him a very angry look. Why was he acting like his fur was grown backwards?

Griffinshade shrugged, hiding his smile. "You said you were ready." he mewed back simply. He sat back down, facing away from Kestrelpaw. "Are you ready?"

Kestrelpaw grunted. Yes, he said he was ready, but StarClan. "Are you going to attack me again?" He asked him. He wasn't just going to be tackled every day and willy nilly. He needed to know what was going on first.

Griffinshade almost rolled his eyes, almost. Instead he ignored the question, going back to his. "Are you ready?" he repeated.

Kestrelpaw rolled his eyes. Fine, be that way. "Yeah, sure, whatever," he grumbled. This tiem he actually braced himself, waiting for Griffinshade to attack him.

Griffinshade whipped around, darting back and forth. He ended up going for Kestrelpaw's right side, he lowered his head so he could head-butt his apprentice, if he had aimed right.

Kestrelpaw took Griffonshade's hit. He rolled on hsi side, but quick got his footing. He sprang towards his new mentor's (as well as new warrior's) head. If he could get up there he'd attack his head and his neck.

Griffinshade bent his head down, trying to absorb the cat onto his neck. He felt Kestrelpaw hit him full force and at once he made his head fly upwards. If it worked right, he'd make the younger tom come off his neck and fall somewhere.

Kestrelpaw screeched as he was thrown into the air. StarClan! His mentor was crazy! He landed roughly on Griffonshade's back. He didn't like this one bit. He was pretty certain that cats didn't just throw other cats into the air. He rolled over and off of his back, completely enraged.

"I'm not doing this anymore," he growled. First he was tackled out of nowhere and then tossed into the air like piece of moss? No. Just no! He'd had it! "You're. Insane." He sat down refusing to move.

Griffinshade looked at his apprentice. "So you are giving up." he shook his head in disapointment. "You had some serious potential." he sighed. He turned away, about to leave. "I guess I'll just have to teach Foxpaw how to fight three different cats at the same time and win."

Kestrelpaw glared at Griffonshade. "I'm not giving up," he snarled. He didn't realy mind if he left, but he definately did not want him training Foxpaw, at all. She could get her own stinkin' mentor. There were a lot of newly warrior'd apprentice, and wariror's without apprentices. Treeshadow, Feralpelt, and the other ones! Tansypaw and Beepaw and Slippaw didn't train with mulitple cats, so why did he have to?

Griffinshade, pricked his ears. He turned around, his shoulders tensed. "Then fight me." he growled. Kestrelpaw is so stubborn. Why couldn't he just take an order without questioning it? Why does he have to be so much like me? I swear, Foxpaw is so much easier to handle.

"No, you're just going to toss me into a tree or try to bury me in the dirt." He didn't appreciate his first day of training being pure abuse. He didn't want to be a bird, and he didn't want to be a mole either, he just wanted to fight like a regular old cat, and those didn't have to do with growing wings or getting dirt under your claws.

"Coward." Griffinshade snarled. "Do you think it was easy when I became Griffinpaw? Everything was hard." he glared at Kestrelpaw. "I wasn't fortunate enough to have my mentor given to me. I had to teach myself to hunt, learn how to fight." he remembered the day he decided he could take wolves by himself, he was so cocky back then. "I had to find my own mentor." he bared his fangs, though he had no intent on using them.

Kestrelpaw's fur bristled. Coward. He was no coward! "At least your mentor wasn't training five cats along with you!" Why did he have to be paired with this stupid lump? He didn't even attempt to touch noses with him, in fact, they hadn't even made contact. He'd been angry from the ceremony until now.

Griffinshade growled, That didn't mean a thing. "At least I consider Foxpaw a worthy apprentice. She didn't ever give up, even when I beat her." he snarled back. He was right, Foxpaw didn't give up, she just thought the loss was a good experience for her. She had some problems, but for the most part she would make a good warrior.
Kestrelpaw would too, if only he would listen. This cat's like a miniature me. StarClan must be giving me some sort of punishment. "When your a warrior, you can't just say 'no' to things! You have to suck it up and do your duty! The whole Clan depends on every pawstep you make!"
